EDMONTON, FEBRUARY 11TH, 2019 – It is with great joy that the ACFA presents the theme for the 2019 edition of the Alberta Francophonie Month which will take place March 1st until March 31st.
Franco jusqu’au sommet!
Franco to the top !
“In the spirit of linguistic duality in Western Canada, the symbolism of the flag raising ceremony fits perfectly with the theme of unity and inclusivity. Let us take advantage of the month of March to help our fellow Canadians discover our pride as francophones and to share our culture and history.” declared Mr. Marc Arnal, president of the ACFA.
Celebrated in all four corners of the province, the Alberta Francophonie Month will encourage francophones and francophiles to participate in numerous events which the ACFA will announce as soon as next week. This year lecturer and adventurer Jean-François Dupras of Canmore will act as the official ambassador for the event.
“I’m very proud to be a francophone in Alberta and to join in on the festivities as ambassador of Alberta Francophonie Month. I’ve climbed the highest peaks of the world in the name of mental health. The theme for this year has therefore struck a chord in my heart. Climbing all the way to the top is something I know all too well!” said Jean-François Dupras.
Truly passionate for alpinism since his discovery of the Canadian Rockies at age 20, Jean-François Dupras is responsible for creating “Ma vie mon aventure / My life my adventure”. His fundraising project “Overcoming Mental Illness one Summit at a Time’’ will see him reach the summit of the 7 highest peaks—the highest on each continent—all in the name of mental health.
The programming for the various Franco-Albertan Flag Raising ceremonies is already available online for the general public on the ACFA’s official website. These events will be coordinated by the local regionals of the ACFA spread throughout the province. The official launch of the full program for the Alberta Francophonie Month will be available next week.
“This year, we’ll take full advantage of the Alberta Francophonie Month to make known our official emblems to all Albertans. We’ll be announcing new partnerships next week, as well as a few surprises.” added Mr. Marc Arnal
Until then, francophones and francophiles are invited to show their colours with the help of promotional materials showcasing the Franco-Albertan flag and any effigy representing French heritage, available for purchase on the ACFA online store.
Founded in 1926, the ACFA is the official voice of the Alberta’s French-speaking society and is committed to ensure its continued development.
