20150218 – Together, let’s celebrate Alberta’s Francophonie: On March 6th 2015, the sky will be blue, white and pink!

EDMONTON, February 18th, 2015 – The French speaking community of Alberta continues to experience impressive growth and March 6 will be the perfect occasion for enthusiasts of the French language to come together and celebrate the vitality of this diverse community. The seventh edition of Franco-Albertan flag-raising ceremony promises to be spectacular with over 25 regions holding ceremonies in public places along with several French and immersion schools across the province. Jean Johnson, President of the ACFA, welcomes all Albertans who wish to celebrate: « During the month of March, specifically March 6th, let’s have a good time and share with everyone our pride to be part of this community. Please invite a colleague or friend to join us and discover a new culture. »

Furthermore, this day of celebration marks the opening of: Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2015 (RVF), taking place from March 6th to March 22nd . The ACFA encourages the community to participate in this great event celebrating the Francophonie and to organize activities in their area. By organizing and gathering hundreds of different activities organized by Francophones and Francophiles across the country, the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie communicates the vitality of communities of these regions. The ACFA would like to express gratitude to its partners, Ici Radio-Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Government of Alberta and recognize the regional partners for their constant support, making the flag-raising ceremonies a great success and continue each year to be successful.

In addition, ACFA would like to remind you that the drawing contest « Dessine ce que représente pour toi: Mon drapeau, ma langue, ma fierté! » is now open to young Albertans from kindergarten to Grade 12. Students are encouraged to use one of the templates according to the grade, available on the Website of the ACFA and send their drawings before 4:30 pm, Monday, March 2nd, 2015.
